I think the best way to prevent social media identity theft is not disclosing very personal information. Too much information is bad, especially in the internet where criminals lurk very often.
Celebrities are the usual targets. There are many accounts of celebrities in social networking sites that doesn’t really belong to them. It may seem harmless, and some might say they’re only fan accounts but it’s becoming very alarming.
Your phone numbers, home addresses and (definitely not) bank account numbers and their PINs and other passwords should not be disclosed in social networking sites.
Ensure that when registering in social networking sites, you wouldn’t give out personal information that you think strangers shouldn’t possess.
